Donation (Gift) Program

In support of Executive Order #12999, Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for all Children in the Next Century, the Donation, Utilization and Sales (DUS) Group manages and coordinates Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL) Donation (Gift) Program. Once LLNL/DOE property is determined "excess" to the needs of LLNL and the government, it may be made available either through the K-12 Gift Program to school districts or donation to colleges, universities and nonprofit organizations. This property may also be made available to colleges and universities through the Laboratory Equipment Donation Program (LEDP) Grant Program obtained through DOE.

K-12 Gift Program

  • K-12 school recipient must be located within the State of California.
  • K-12 School Administrator or District Superintendent must submit a K-12 Donation Request form and justification memo to DUS Donation Administrator.
  • Processing requests from K-12 school districts must be prioritized by date of enrollment.

Donation to Nonprofit Organizations

  • Nonprofit organization may receive excess government property, as a gift, if it is to be used for mathematical, scientific and technological literacy activities and after it has completed the required LLNL and DOE excess property screening.
  • Nonprofit organization may also receive surplus property, as a donation, for any other use after the completion of LLNL, DOE, Federal, and State surplus property screening.

Donation to Colleges and Universities

If property is located on-site, a college or university becomes eligible to receive it by:

  1. Submitting a formal request to: k12donations [at] llnl.gov (k12donations[at]llnl[dot]gov)
  2. Contacting an LLNL colleague who will initiate the request;
  3. Contacting the DUS Donation Administrator, at 925-422-6708.
  4. Submitting a formal request on their school letterhead.

If property is located at a college or university either on loan agreement or furnished through another agreement, it may be donated to the college or university if it is no longer needed by LLNL or DOE programs.

LEDP Grants to Colleges and Universities

The LEDP Grant Program was established by DOE to grant available used equipment to institutions of higher education for energy-related research. For details on this program, visit the LEDP Home Page.

A college or university requesting property under a DOE-sponsored LEDP program must complete the online grant application that is automatically forwarded to the appropriate DOE Operations Office for approval.
